Family Man
Jay Woodhams is a dedicated family man striving to be the best husband and father that he can be. Jay believes that a strong family foundation is the bedrock of a strong community. As a City of Portage Council member, Jay Woodhams will promote the family values that are paramount to the success of this community.
Coach
Being a mentor and a role model through coaching the youth of our community is one of Jay's most prized endeavors. Coaches play a pivotal role in the development of our kids to build them into strong confident members of the community who will eventually pay it forward as they grow into adulthood. Jay expresses how fortunate he is to have had the opportunity to coach a significant number of kids over the past several years.
Business Man
Jay Woodhams has been in leadership roles for the bulk of his working career. Since his early 20's he has worked in management positions. In 2013, Jay started his own business and learned all the lessons that come with ownership. As a business owner in Portage, Jay Woodhams has first hand knowledge of the relationship between the City and the Portage business community. This experience will make him an indispensable part of the future of business development in the City of Portage.
Community Service
Jay Woodhams believes deeply in providing service to the community. He has spent the majority of his free time as a volunteer, serving on School Boards, advocating for Foster and Adoptive families, serving on the City of Portage Board of Review, Kalamazoo In Bloom, Kalamazoo Cancer Society Relay for Life and Local Little Leagues, just to name a few. Currently Jay Woodhams operates two non-profit organizations. One is a travel baseball and softball organization committed to developing our local youth into outstanding citizens via the sport of baseball. The other is a league organization whose mission is to raise funds for qualified but economically challenged youth players. Because economic status should not be an obstacle to youth development.
